Vladimir Gandelsman, a poet and translator, was born in Leningrad in 1948 and has worked as a stoker, watchman, tour guide and mover, among other professions. Since 1991, he has divided his time between New York and St. Petersburg. Gandelsman is the author of more than 20 books of poetry, prose and essays, and the recipient of several awards.
