Slepoi angle (The Blind Angel) is a collection of short prose and novellas by Yuz Aleshkovsky, a celebrated master of uncensored Soviet literature. The book includes his cult works, written in a distinctive satirical, grotesque, and confessional manner. The author masterfully uses living colloquial speech, elements of Soviet urban folklore, and deep philosophical subtext to expose the absurdity of the totalitarian system and to explore the nature of human freedom, faith, and compassion.

An unexpected joy. The last thing I expected was that we would ever see this book. Yuz wrote it for a long time and complained that it was coming slowly and with difficulty. Frankly, I thought he had simply abandoned it, as sometimes happens. Yuz has long been in a better world, and suddenly the book is here, and we again hear his inimitable voice, full of bitter irony and wisdom. I can call this nothing other than a miracle.

Andrei Makarevich

I miss Yuz very much. But I am reading his last, posthumous novel, and Yuz is alive.
