"Soskreb" is a poetry collection in which the impossibility of writing in a time of catastrophe meets the search for a language capable of speaking about what is frightening, heavy, and shameful. Polina Barskova, a scholar of the literature and anthropology of besieged Leningrad, immerses the reader in a dialogue between the present and the past, without searching for models or points of orientation, and with an attempt to comprehend and articulate an experience of loss, grief and shame that is deeply personal, yet recognisable and familiar. For her, poetry becomes a task performed without expecting joy or catharsis from it, although it continues to be a form of presence and contact with reality, a "consolation without consolation".
