Женя Беркович — режиссерка, писательница, основательница независимой театральной компании «Дочери СОСО», ученица Кирилла Серебренникова — одна из самых заметных фигур современного театра в России. В июле 2024 года Беркович приговорили к шести годам колонии по надуманному делу об «оправдании терроризма» в спектакле «Финист ясный сокол».
Zhenya Berkovich’s Pets is a prison tale; everything in it is true, but all the characters are fictional, and any resemblance to real people is purely coincidental. The story is set in Tyurmeow, where cats, rats, dogs, cockroaches, a crow, and, of course, humans must all coexist—but this is not a story about humans. The main character, Volny Kotan, goes through a series of trials to realize that even in the bleakest and most difficult circumstances, there is always room for friendship, resilience, and mutual support.
Zhenya Berkovich is a director, writer, founder of the independent theater company Daughters of SOSO, and a student of Kirill Serebrennikov. She is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Russian theater. In July 2024, Berkovich was sentenced to six years in prison on trumped-up charges of “justifying terrorism” in her play “Finist the Bright Falcon.”
